Keep That Sparkle In Your Crystal Chandelier

A brand new crystal chandelier when initially installed will without a doubt look like a million diamonds radiating their prismatic spell and charm in the room. However, as is with everything else at home, the chandelier will eventually get dirty and start to lose its luster and sparkle. But cleaning your chandelier will restore your most treasured lighting fixture back to its original shining form.

First of all...

For starters, you should become proactive and start dusting your lighting fixture as often as possible. This way you will keep excess dirt at bay. Dusting once a month ensures your chandelier shines nicely. Chandeliers in or near the fireplace or used as kitchen lighting, or places where candles are burnt regularly will need dusting at least once every week because these locations collect soot and grease quite easily. Further, if you have a smoker in your house, ensure you dust your chandelier quite regularly and thoroughly as this kind of smoke also clings to the surface of your chandelier just as fireplace smoke does.

Never neglect...

Deep clean your chandelier at least twice every year using a solution of water and vinegar or mild soapy water. If you use abrasives or harsh chemicals you will be risking damaging your chandelier. Again, depending on the area and other key factors, you may need to deep clean your chandelier very regularly to retain its sparkle.

Remove all the crystals!

When deep cleaning a chandelier, ensure you remove all crystals before cleaning and polishing the entire metal and then replacing the burned-out bulbs. If you have a big chandelier or are located in a hard-to-access location, the process can be very lengthy. Even so, don’t cut clean the corners; rather, repeat every few days if you must.

Treat it as if it's your own...because it is.

Owning a crystal chandelier is one thing and maintaining it is a totally different thing that takes a lot of effort and dedication. People who own chandeliers all agree that the work involved might be difficult and time consuming yes, but it will be worth it when your guests are welcomed to your home with the dancing prismatic crystals. No other light fixture can beat the ‘wow’ appeal crystal chandeliers bring.
